Robert Cullen (professional footballer)
Robert Cullen (born June 7, 1985) is a Japanese professional footballer for Roasso Kumamoto of the J. League Division 2, the second-tier professional football league in Japan. Playing as a forward, Cullen made his debut for Jubilo Iwata as a professional on May 5, 2004, against Oita Trinita.
Cullen started training in the youth ranks at Kashiwa Reysol before eventually joining the team at Funabashi Municipal High School. After his graduation, he signed with Jubilo Iwata in 2004. Although mostly limited to substitute appearances and the occasional league cup start in his rookie year, big things were expected of Cullen as he matured and gained experience playing with such seasoned professionals as Masashi 'Gon' Nakayama and Toshiya Fujita.
Robert is known to his teammates and family as "Bobby". He is the son of a Northern Irish father and a Japanese mother. In 2005 he selected Japanese citizenship in order to be able to play for the Japanese national team. He was a member of the Japan under-20 team which played in the Netherlands in 2005.
The past two years ,recovery from corrective surgery, now complete, has prevented Cullen from showing his true worth. His transfer to Kumamoto will provide him with a chance to prove his worth. (Source: Wikipedia)
